We are very pleased to offer a very rare 1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP. Finished in the ever popular British Racing green with a contrasting white roof and bonnet stripes, this Cooper has been in the same family for over twenty years, registered new in September 1990 and supplied by Westover Rover in Bournemouth, it has remained a local car its entire life. It is accompanied with the original fully stamped service book, handbooks and a raft of service receipts dating right back to 1990, MOT certificates and both sets of keys. Provenance is key with these special Minis and this one has it all. Owning an RSP Mini gains you access to an exclusive Mini Cooper club and this one offers that at a very affordable price as they are usually double this price and more. We have priced this one as it has done higher mileage than most, which was covered in its early years and has since had a full engine rebuild and lots of care and attention and what it offers is fantastic drivers car that is ready to be enjoyed.
RSP was a special department inside Rover and it stood for Rover Special Products. 1600 RSP Minis were produced as a pre production Mini Cooper to test the market to see if the appetite for a Cooper was still there, it was and these special Minis sold out instantly which paved the way for the Cooper relaunch. 1050 stayed in the UK in three colours and very few remain in this condition. This particular one is a member of the RSP register, only a few hundred are known to survive. They have many unique details that were only ever fitted to the RSP such as the Tudor sunroof, Minilite wheels with a unique stud pattern, half leather seats with a Cooper emblem, colour coded arches and mirrors and unique spotlights. They have always been a very coveted edition as they are true carb Cooper with bags of power. This a correct matching numbers example with all of its original features.
On the road this Cooper drives very well. Make no mistake this is a drivers car it just gives you that feel as soon as its out on the open road. The 1275 engine is super smooth and free revving and the gearbox has a slick and precise change. RSP Minis were fitted with an oil cooled MG Metro engine and they are known to perform like a good Cooper should. The Mini also has a Maniflow exhaust for the correct Cooper sound. The performance and handling will surprise as it pulls like a train, it really excels out on the open road and this the whole point of this example, not only is it good to look at it, the driving experience will give you a big grin.
The interior is well presented with its original seats, carpets and roof liner. There are areas that can be improved but it is perfectly useable as it is. The original dash is all present and correct with the 3 clock binnacle with green dials and a rev counter. It has the original red leather Cooper steering wheel and this model also has rear belts.
This RSP presents well and as you can see the paintwork is gleaming but please expect to find the odd blemish. The shell is very solid and has the correct vented sills and solid subframes. It can easily be used and improved along the way if desired but that is not the point of this Cooper, its ready to be jumped in and driven.
We have fully serviced, checked and driven this Mini and it has a long MOT.
