Being a south African car there is none of the usual corrosion issues, in fact the climate was so dry car wasn’t even supplied with a heather when new! We have since installed a genuine, period correct item assuming the new owner would want to drive the car in the cooler UK climate!
Exceptionally original, beautifully presented in fantastic driving condition, this Mini Clubman really does tick all the right boxes. It’s had just one former registered keeper who acquired the car new in 1973.
The body is in great shape; the original floors are still finished in their factory coatings on both sides and the welded seams are crisp throughout. The interior is similarly remarkable, with no notable wear to the factory seat upholstery, the under-bonnet cladding and boot mat are the original items. The car recently completing a 300-kilometre round trip with no issues to report whatsoever.
Once registered in the UK we decided to undertake a general recommission to include a check of all electrics, lights, wipers etc. The car was fully serviced, oil and filter change, new plugs, air filter, carburettor removed and cleaned.
The suspension was replaced, the wheels refurbished and fitted with brand new period correct Blockley tyres.
SA vehicles were fitted with the more powerful 1100cc motor with the 11-stud head, with that in mind, we upgraded the front brakes from drums to discs to improve the stopping power. The car is more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic and with the new suspension and tyres handles better than new
ULEZ, Tax and MOT exempt. You could say the perfect solution to city traffic!
