In 1957, the third series of the DB2/ 4 was introduced. The 4 stood for the number of seats, as there were now two emergency seats in the rear in addition to the two front seats.
The 6-cylinder double overhead camshaft engine, still designed by W. O. Bentley for Lagonda, was carried over from its predecessor, but thanks to a twin SU carburetor system and optional twin exhaust system, it produced up to 180 hp, giving the MKIII a remarkable top speed of 120 mph.
Only 84 convertibles of the third series were built, most of which remained in their home market, with only about 1/ 3 being exported as left-hand drive vehicles.
Our MKIII was produced in March 1959 and delivered in September 1959 via Aston Martin Services Inc. in Needles, California, to its first owner, an investment company in Beverly Hills.
As a copy of the build sheet shows, the car was ordered with all the extras ex works: overdrive, twin exhaust system, and chrome rims.
In the years that followed, it remained in the US, with previous owners in Indiana and Ohio before the car returned to Europe in 2006.
In 2018, the DB 2/ 4 was thoroughly inspected by Aston Martin specialist Pugsley & Lewis LTD in London and found to be “restored and maintained to a very high standard.”
Shortly thereafter, it was sold to a German collection, where it has been registered ever since.
