Description

Introduced in 1934, the Mk II was Aston-Martin’s replacement for the Le Mans model. It sported a new stronger chassis and improved engine with counter-balanced crankshaft. Originally available in either short or long wheelbase versions - the shorter version being virtually mechanically identical to the famous Ulster racing car. A number of Mk II cars competed in period and the competition lineage can be clearly seen making it an extremely capable and fast car, suitable for rally, touring and even racing events.

This example, chassis G4/ 457/ S, was sold new in 1934 to Mr William Morrison of Renfrewshire, who collected it from the factory in Feltham and drove it home to Scotland. During the war, it appears to have ended up in the possession of a US officer who likely took it home after the war as, in the 1959 Aston Martin Owners Club register, it is shown as resident in the USA. Norman Pickup, a member of the AMOC (USA), owned this car in the early 1960s, along with another Aston Martin Le Mans, E3/ 271/ S. In the early 1970s, Pickup decided to sell both cars and these were bought by Nick Mason, Pink Floyd's drummer and famous collector of historic cars and also the founder of Ecurie Bertelli. Mason sold the still untouched and original Mk II to Silvio Fella, who re-registered it GB11 and took part in several club races and other events in 1981-82. In the mid 1980s, the car was dismantled for the first time by Fella.

In the early 1990s, Ecurie Bertelli commenced a full restoration of the car over several years and re-built the engine with steel crank and rods. In 2002, and after only 2, 000 miles, Fella sold the car to Paul Dezelsky who used it sparingly as it was one of two Aston Martin MKIIs he owned. The current owner bought the car in 2007 from Ecurie Bertelli and took it to Germany where he campaigned it regularly in races and rallies with some success.

G4/ 457/ S is fitted with a brand new Ecurie Bertelli engine, built around a new cylinder block and only test miles completed since. The original cylinder block is with the car. The vehicle is tidy, in good condition with attractive light patina built up over the last 30 years and handles very well. It is an ideal touring or rally car with thousands of miles of trouble-free motoring ahead.

Please contact Ecurie Bertelli for full details and to arrange to see this car in our showroom.
