Description

The Ferrari 250 GT/ L or 'Lusso' is the last evolution of the famed Ferrari 250 Berlinetta line of vehicles; one of the most beautiful cars ever made. The car was initially revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October 1962, the last vehicle to carry the iconic "250" name, carrying design and performance features from legendary cars such as the GTO and SWB.

The Lusso was instantly desired by celebrity petrol heads such as Steve McQueen and Eric Clapton. Demand outstripped supply massively, with only 350 Lussos being produced from 1962-1964; the 250 GT/ L was always destined to be a future classic. Translating to English as 'Luxury,' the Lusso's cabin beautifully compliments that curvaceous exterior with extensive leather, chrome and the now famous Nardi wood-rimmed wheel dominating the environment.

The 250 GT/ L is powered by a 3. 0 litre Columbo V12, benefiting from triple Weber carbs producing around 240 bhp. Although performance was not the key objective of the Lusso, it still lived up to the high standards of other 250-series Ferraris, capable of speeds around 150mph. Such DNA meant that the Lusso was not only one of the best-looking Ferraris ever made, but also one of the best to drive; the ultimate Grand Tourer, focused on luxury over competition.

Delivered new in 1963, this Lusso later joined a discreet private collection during the 1980s before receiving restoration work in Milan. It subsequently proved its capability with successful entries in three historic Tour de France rallies, before arriving in the UK in 1997 following its purchase at a Monaco auction. In 2007 it was acquired by noted enthusiast and Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay for his wonderful collection of drivers’ cars.

It has been owned by him ever since and between 2019 and 2022 was treated to a complete, ground-up restoration by marque specialists Barkaways. The body was stripped to bare metal before being painted in its original Nero colour. The rebuild was carried out with newly sourced or fully refurbished components throughout and included a full engine, gearbox, and suspension overhaul. O’Rourke Coachtrimmers complemented the restoration with a freshly retrimmed tan leather interior.

The finished car made its public debut at the 2022 Salon Privé Concours d’Elégance and has since been protected with full-body PPF to preserve its presentation. Offered with a matching-numbers engine and an exceptional level of documentation: two extensive history folios with MOTs and service invoices dating back to the 1980s, full restoration records and photography, user manuals, leather wallet, tool roll, two sets of keys and a FIVA identity card.

The 250 GT Lusso is undoubtedly one of the finest machines for cross continental road trips or weekend drives and this fully restored example would leave its new owner wanting for nothing. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
