Description
The VW Beetle was conceived in 1925 by Austro-Hungarian inventor and father of automobile passive safety, Bela Barenyi. Soon after Ferdinand Porsche was commissioned to engineer and materialize it into prototypes built by Mercedes-Benz. Notably, both Barenyi and Porsche were nominated as Car Engineers of the Century for their work in passive safety and creation of Volkswagen respectively. Much like the insect, the Beetle was engineered with enough consistency to survive through all hardships to a production of 21mi units over a 65-year span. By 1969 it encompassed 2200 revisions that emphasized on durability over the decades. Interestingly, all 5000 components of each Beetle would be subjected to 16000 inspections at the factory prior reaching at the showroom.
The Beetle offered was produced in late 1969 in Savannah Beige over Red and dispatched to its first owner in Athens, Greece. Four decades later it was acquired by a marque collector who decided to conduct a restoration to an already excellent basis that included an upgrade to leather seats. With less that 1000 km since its completion, the Beetle presents today in excellent cosmetic and mechanical order allowing for both show as well as daily driving for the years to come.
