Now recognised as representing a 'Golden Age' for Chevrolet's Corvette sports car, the Sting Ray version was manufactured from 1963 to 1967 and has since gone on to become a highly collectible modern classic. The first 'Split Window' model lasted for only one year, a single-piece rear screen becoming the norm thereafter, and is considered one of the most desirable of Corvette variants. A little over 21, 000 Sting Rays were made in 1963, the production split being roughly 50/ 50 coupé/ convertible. And, as is the case with most American cars of this period, the Corvette buyer could choose from a host of factory options with the result that seldom are two cars exactly alike.
The current owner imported this 'Split Window' model from the USA into Sweden in 2013, since when he has installed air conditioning and serviced the driveshaft, brakes and rear axle. Finished in light blue metallic with black interior, the Corvette is described by the private vendor as in generally good condition, though there is some slight damage visible in the right front wheelarch. There are some documents with the car, but nothing that states it has been restored; according to our vendor, the paint has not been measured but could possibly be original. The car is registered in Sweden and comes with Swedish registration documents.
All lots are sold 'as is/ where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams|Cars website for all pertinent auction information.
