Description

No, the price is not an error, this is actually what you can buy this car for! We have here a 1959 Jaguar XK150 3. 4 Drophead Coupe, Manual, finished in Carmen Red with Red Leather Interior, She is an older restoration that drives beautifully! The catch is that the chassis is from a Coupe, rebodied with a Drophead Body sometime in the Sixties. This car does actually some incredible things going for it, not least of which is a genuine 3. 4S Engine fitted, with an Upgraded Getrag 5 Speed Gearbox and also Power Steering! This drives better than any XK we have had and has had a fortune spent on it over the years!

Jaguar's legendary XK sports car range reached its final flowering in 1957 with the launch of the XK150, a progressive development of the XK120 and XK140. The XK150 retained the same basic chassis, engine and transmission of its predecessors but benefited from an entirely new, more modern body providing increased interior space and improved visibility courtesy of a single-piece wrap-around windscreen. The new model's main talking point was the use of Dunlop disc brakes; at last the XK had stopping power to match its prodigious straight-line speed. Introduced in the spring of 1957, the XK150 was available at first only in fixed-head and drophead coupé forms, the open version not appearing until the following year.

The drophead coupe was a particularly versatile combination, with occasional rear seats and a fully lined hood. The updated aluminium and leather facia may have modernised the interior but it retained enough of the Old World charm Jaguar have long been famous for. At 190bhp, the 3. 4-litre engine's maximum power output was identical to that of the XK140, so performance was little changed. The 'Special Equipment' and 'S' versions had 210 and 250bhp respectively, while overdrive and automatic transmission were options, as was a dual exhaust system. "The Jaguar XK150 is undeniably one of the world's fastest and safest cars. It is quiet and exceptionally refined mechanically, docile and comfortable. As with most cars, there are a few body details which could be improved, but we do not know of any more outstanding example of value for money," concluded The Autocar.

So our car started life on the 6th January 1959 as a Genuine UK Supplied RHD 3. 4 Fixed Head Coupe, finished in Pearl Grey with Red Leather Interior, supplied by Spencerbeck Motors in Middlesborough, sometime in the Sixties the car had a Drophead Coupe body fitted, perhaps after an accident, and she also received a factory crate 3. 4S Engine with the correct VS Prefix. She was restored in the Eighties and has had a long list of restoration work carried out in recent years.

So we have a High specification XK150 3. 4S engine with triple SU carburettors, upgraded with Getrag 5-speed gearbox and electric power steering, Coopercraft upgraded brakes and modern suspension components, Maintained by marque specialists RACE Ltd with a Long list of recent work, including gearbox rebuild and new clutch, Prop Shaft, new shock absorbers, polybushed Suspension and Vredestein tyres. The previous owner has owned the car for nearly 10 years and wanted a car mechanically superb but in a nice older used condition cosmetically. The car was recently serviced in 2024 with few miles covered since this work. This is one for the touring enthusiast who really wants to use and enjoy their XK, in effect, a Great driving car, ideal for touring or regularity/ classic rallying. She represents incredible value, as the car was bought for around £80k a few years a go and has had around £5k of expenditure in the las few years also. So if you are looking for a great driving XK150 Drophead and are happy with paying half the market price, then this is for you!
