Just arrived at The Forge is this charming 1968 MGC Roadster — a UK-supplied, home-market example benefiting from an older restoration, believed to have been carried out around 2015. The work included a full body respray and significant mechanical refurbishment.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate confirms that this is an original UK right-hand drive car, built between 27th and 29th March 1968 and dispatched to MG specialist dealer University Motors Limited on 3rd April 1968. Its original specification included a Mineral Blue exterior, black interior trim, and black hood. Factory-fitted extras at the time of production included wire wheels, a heater, foldaway hood, tonneau cover, and overdrive. The registration mark it still carries today was first issued in Greater London (North West) and assigned to the vehicle from new.
Although the exterior colour has since been changed to classic red, this MGC remains largely faithful to its factory specification. It retains desirable features such as overdrive, twin SU carburettors, a lightweight fibreglass bonnet, and elegant wire wheels fitted with Uniroyal tyres.
On the road, it performs well — with strong oil pressure, a smooth gearbox, and a fully functioning overdrive system — making it ideally suited to relaxed, long-distance touring.
With just six previous keepers, the car was lovingly maintained by its most recent owner in Cambridgeshire for over 15 years. It has aged gracefully, both inside and out, retaining its period charm while displaying only light age-related patina. This is a classic to be driven and enjoyed.
The car has just been returned from Creed and Shore Motorworks, who have independently prepared the vehicle on our behalf. Their work included: removing and skimming the cylinder head, lapping in the valves, replacing the cylinder head gasket, fitting a new handbrake cable and brake cylinders, installing a new gearstick change bush, adjusting the handbrake, replacing the handbrake levers, repairing the horn, fitting new exhaust rubbers, running the engine through three heat cycles followed by a retorque and valve clearance reset, and presenting the car for its MOT, which it passed. A replacement steering rack is currently on order.
Work completed at The Forge to date includes minor bodywork improvements, new boot carpets, new front overmats, a new fuel gauge, new front brakes and calipers, a new battery, and a professional valet and detail including a machine polish.
