Description

. Eligible for Equipe GTS and Pre 66 Historic Championships.

There are sports cars that promise excitement… and then there are those that deliver it in its purest form.

Born in the fearless early years of TVR, the Grantura was never designed to follow convention. Its lightweight fibreglass body, draped over a purposeful tubular steel chassis, created a machine defined by one principle: performance without compromise. The result was razor-sharp handling, an exceptional power-to-weight ratio, and a driving experience that demanded and rewarded true skill.

The 1966 Grantura 1800S offered here is no ordinary example. Chassis No. 001 was built as a factory works demonstrator, a car destined from the beginning to prove its pedigree on both road and circuit. It did so with distinction, competing successfully at the Brands Hatch 500km and numerous club events in the hands of celebrated drivers Gerry Marshall and Tony Lafranchi.

Its racing story continued when acquired in 1967 by Peter Clarke, who campaigned the car at the Nürburgring 1000km a proving ground where only the most capable machines earned respect. Later, the Grantura passed to Mary Wheeler, founder of the British Women Racing Drivers’ Club, who continued to campaign the car before it entered a period of careful dry storage.

Today, this remarkably low-mileage example benefits from a comprehensive restoration by renowned racing driver Wille Green. The work was carried out with meticulous attention: the original chassis was inspected, all mechanical components were removed and rebuilt, and the running gear fully renewed. Power now comes from a Dennis Welch 1850 MGB engine fitted with an aluminium crossflow head, delivering approximately 170bhp a figure that perfectly complements the car’s featherweight construction.

Accompanying this Grantura is an extensive history file, including its current V5 registration certificate, numerous invoices, and FIA papers valid until December 2025.

Raw. Rare. Unapologetically driver focused.

This is not simply a classic sports car it is a piece of racing history, waiting for its next custodian.

Viewing strictly by appointment.
