Note:
The 1948 Earls Court show saw the presentation of Jaguar's latest model, hastily produced to make up for the absence of the future Mk VII... The result was stunning: the new 6-cylinder XK was clad in a streamlined, sporty body of rare elegance, strikingly modern for the late 1940s.
The newcomer was named XK 120 (for 120 mph, 193 km/ h), and met with immediate success, particularly in the United States. Initially intended as a small-production car, it was in fact a mainstay model that remained in the catalog for over 10 years, gleaning some of the English firm's greatest sporting successes.
Our example is without a shadow of a doubt unique in all XK production... It arrived in 2011 with its previous owner, who decided very shortly afterwards to change its skin. The steel body is replaced by a bespoke one, made entirely of aluminium! The work didn't stop there, however, as the mechanical part of the car was also overhauled... And that's where the masterpiece came in: the 3. 4-litre 6-cylinder engine was swapped for a 3. 8-litre unit.
Its anatomy has also evolved, with 3 Weber45s, electronic ignition, fast-road camshafts, Omega pistons, Arrow connecting rods, high-flow oil pump, improved chain tensioner, lightened flywheel, etc. The gearbox is changed for a 5-speed Getrag, a self-locking axle is installed, four large-caliper disc brakes, Koni shock absorbers, and so on (precise list on request)! Today, the car is in perfect working order. The 6-cylinder comes to life at the first touch, and delivers mind-boggling performance on the road.
This is an absolutely unique example, which will appeal to the most demanding Gentlemen Drivers, whether they wish to take part in historic regularity events or the finest rallies!
