1967 Mini Cooper S Mk1
Presenting a standout 1967 Mini Cooper S Mk1, having lived an intriguing life in South America, now expertly restored to Concours standards.
According to the Club registrar this is the only Mk1 Cooper S exported to Venezuela. The car, registered as 110 609 remained in country until purchased, shipped and repatriated back to England by the current owner some 10 years ago???
A 1967 built car, fitted with 41/ 2 inch Minilite wheels, reclining seats, heater and sump guard from new as well as the more unusual factory fitted locking petrol cap.
During the 1970’s the car turned its hand to the then prolific Venezuelan road racing scene. Being a tropical nation some interesting aero modifications were developed to aid cooling (see pictures).
Restoration summary.
Upon arrival in the UK a stem to stern restoration commenced, importantly retaining the original body shell with the two original body stamps together with the original chassis plate.
New floors supplied by Mini Machine in Darlington.
Converted to RHD (original LHD steering rack retained).
Shell sprayed in original Almond Green with Old English White roof.
After reassembly the interior was re trimmed using correct pattern kit from Newton Equipment.
Originally on Hydro-elastic suspension, rebuilt with the simpler, adjustable Hi-Lo cone system, which utilises the original subframes.
The engine rebuild involved a rebore to +0. 060” circa 1340 cc, a fast road cam and 1. 5" HS4 SUs, otherwise standard Cooper ’S' specification.
Current installed gearbox is the later all synchro unit found in the last of the Mk 2 Copper S’s improving usability. The original non - synchro first gearbox is present and included.
Final drive remains the standard 3. 44:1.
Complete with a large number of various spares.
Listed on the Mini Copper S Registrar. Additionally the BMC Heritage Certificate is on file, showing it was exported to Venezuela with adjustable seat backs, twin tanks, sump guard, heater and Minilites. (The original Minilites are included but being period magnesium they are fit only for garage art).
