Jaguar's XJ Saloon was introduced in 1968 and was the last model to have the personal input of Sir William Lyons. The striking Pillarless Coupé was first shown five years later, though production didn't commence until 1975. There were two engine options: a 4. 2-litre DOHC XK unit and the silky 5. 3-litre V12. Just 1, 800 V12 coupés were produced in total until production finished in 1978.

This very rare XJ-C V12 must be one of the lowest-mileage survivors, although it is now in need of significant restoration after forty years off the road. Originally registered in Southampton in September, 1977, it only saw service for eight years before being taken off the road in December, 1985. By 1989, it had entered its long-term home in the Alyth Collection, alongside predominantly Rolls-Royce and Bentley stablemates. The odometer reading is impressive, as it shows just 13, 146 miles, so we would expect the mechanical side of this car to have suffered minimal deterioration, with the obvious exception of perishable seals and so on. As one would expect of a low-mileage example, the upholstery looks to be very well-preserved underneath the dust, and we think it should be easily returnable to a show-worthy condition. Unfortunately, the bodywork has reached a more advanced state of deterioration and will require considerable restoration. While some parts have obviously been removed, there is a collection of spares accompanying the car, such that we believe it to be substantially complete. As one of the rarest and most desirable Jaguars of the post-Lyons era, it is most certainly worth saving.
Dieser sehr seltene XJ-C V12 gehört zu den niedrigst-mileagen Überlebenden und benötigt nach vierzig Jahren vom Hof eine erhebliche Restaurierung. Ursprünglich in Southampton im September 1977 zugelassen, diente er nur acht Jahre, bevor er im Dezember 1985 außer Betrieb genommen wurde. Bis 1989 fand er sein Langzeitdomizil in der Alyth-Sammlung, neben hauptsächlich Rolls-Royce- und Bentley-Gespielen. Die Tachometeranzeige ist beeindruckend, sie zeigt nur 13. 146 Meilen, daher würden wir erwarten, dass der mechanische Zustand dieses Autos nur geringe Verschlechterungen aufweist, mit dem offensichtlichen Ausnahme von austauschbaren Dichtungen etc. Wie man bei einem niedrig mileage Exemplar erwartet, wirkt die Polsterung unter dem Staub sehr gut erhalten, und wir glauben, sie ließe sich leicht in einen zustand bringen, der eine Show wert ist. Leider hat der Karosserie einen fortgeschritteneren Verschlechterungszustand erreicht und erfordert erhebliche Restaurierung. Während einige Teile offensichtlich entfernt wurden, gibt es eine Sammlung von Ersatzteilen, die das Auto begleitet, sodass wir es für weitgehend vollständig halten. Als eines der seltensten und begehrenswertesten Jaguars der Post-Lyons-Ära ist es sicherlich eine Rettung wert.
