Description
Jaguar XJC 5. 3 Convertible 1974
Exhibition vehicle at the Turin Motor Show / Italy
The world’s only 12‑cylinder XJ Jaguar convertible
The story:
The Jaguar XJC 5. 3 cabriolet had originally been produced as a coupe at Jaguar on 29. 8. 74 under chassis no. 2G 50010 BW. This Jaguar was subsequently delivered directly to AVON-STEVENS in Warwick, one of the most prestigious coachbuilders in England. AVON-STEVENS were consulted for special Jaguar builds, both for bespoke coachwork and for racing. The aim was to produce a competitive convertible to test the reaction of discerning customers.
The car shown at the 1976 "Salone dell'automobile di Torino" was a success and sold to an Italian collector. This triggered new orders in England, Scotland, Australia and Hong Kong despite the relatively high sale price, so that 11 more right-hand-drive 12‑cylinder convertibles from AVON STEVENS appeared. A separate brochure was even published for this perfectly shaped convertible.
Chassis no. 2G 50010 BW remained the only left‑hand drive 12‑cylinder cabriolet ever built and was registered in Rome under the Roma number 50777D. In the 1990s, this unique cabriolet passed to its second owner.
Meticulously cared for and maintained.
