Description

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 30th April on Thursday the 30th of April. Background:Introduced in 1958, the Land Rover Series II represented a significant development of the original post-war Land Rover concept. Retaining the rugged ladder-frame chassis and aluminium body construction that had proven so successful, the new model featured revised styling by David Bache, including the distinctive curved body sides that would become a defining feature of the Series II generation.
Available in both 88" and 109" wheelbase forms, the Series II quickly established itself as one of the most versatile vehicles of its time. Whether used in agriculture, industry or by the military, its combination of mechanical simplicity, durability and exceptional off-road capability ensured its place as a working vehicle in even the most demanding environments.
The Car:First registered in 1959, this Land Rover Series II 88" presents as a wonderfully aged and characterful example that has retained much of its original charm. Finished in its original Bronze Green paintwork, the vehicle displays the honest patina that enthusiasts often hope to find in an early Land Rover.
Structurally, the chassis is reported to be in superb condition, providing a strong foundation for continued use and enjoyment, and the bodywork carries its original finish, contributing greatly to the vehicle’s authentic appearance and period character.
In recent years, a new canvas tilt has been fitted, complementing the traditional appearance of the soft top configuration. The seats, both front and rear, have been trimmed with the correct Elephant Hide vinyl maintaining the model’s utilitarian yet distinctive cabin environment.
The odometer shows 70, 864 miles, which is believed to be genuine, and mechanically the 2. 25-litre petrol engine is described as crisp in its performance, whilst the gearbox operates as expected with all gears functioning correctly.
Adding to its practical capability, the vehicle is fitted with a capstan power take-off driven front winch, a period accessory designed to assist in more challenging terrain and reflective of the Land Rover’s working heritage.
