Exterior / Body:
The model presented here is an MG A 1600 from January 1960, in its period ‘Signal Red’ colour.
The bodywork was restored a few years ago and the chassis received a full fresh coat of paint. It is currently in good display condition.
After a professional polish performed by our workshop with orbital machine polishing, we noted a slight bubbling on the engine cover and boot lid, and a minor paint defect corrected on the left rear wing.
The bumpers and chrome overriders are properly aligned and in good condition, despite light oxidation on the front bumper.
The grille chromes are in very good condition.
The original mouldings and decorative trims are complete and in good order.
The boot trim is in perfect condition.
This example is also fitted with side screens in medium condition.
The black vinyl hood is present in good presentation order. Fitting is still improvable and its seal is compliant with era standards.
The PVC mica is perfectly translucent, with no cracks or fissures or yellowing despite light scratches.
This car is equipped with a black vinyl-toned tonneau cover in excellent condition.
The four chromed 15” wire wheels and their knock-offs are in excellent condition.
The four FIRESTONE tyres show 20% wear on the front and 30% on the rear.
This exemplar is equipped with its original spare wheel (chrome wire wheel), as well as its jack and mallet.
Among the notable exterior equipment and options on this car, we noted: the side screens in plexiglass, the tonneau cover in black vinyl, and the chrome boot badge.
Interior:
The interior retains its period layout and presents very well.
Black vinyl upholstery with red piping was restored a few years ago. It is in very good condition, with no wear or sagging.
Matching black vinyl door panels are also in good condition.
The dashboard cap in body colour ‘Signal Red’ and the central armrest in black vinyl with red piping are in good condition, with no cracks, deformations or fading.
The dashboard in body colour ‘Signal Red’ is in good condition.
The JAEGER instrument cluster is complete and fully functional except for the backlighting of the gauges.
The original MG bakelite four-spoke steering wheel is in good condition.
The MG bakelite gear knob is also in good condition.
The black carpets are in good display condition.
Among the interesting interior equipment, we note: the four-spoke MG steering wheel, the MG bakelite gear knob, and the central armrest in black with red piping.
Chassis:
Lifting onto the ramp confirms a healthy shell with no visible accident damage or structural corrosion.
Fundamentals: sills, quarter panels, wheel arches, wooden floors and longitudinals are in good condition.
Usage reserve: in principle we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond what is visually and functionally acceptable during road testing and ramp inspection.
During the dynamic test we did not detect any abnormal rattles or noises from the body or suspension components (ball joints, bushings, etc.).
Braking is balanced and aligned, with performance consistent with era standards.
Front brake discs show 30% wear.
Front brake pads show 50% wear.
The rear drums are fully functional with no seepage.
A technical inspection performed by our workshop prior to delivery will confirm overall operation.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanicals are running perfectly.
Compression tests and the road test by our workshop confirm a healthy block.
The four-cylinder starts immediately, with no smoke or suspicious noises and a stable idle, as confirmed by the 360° video with the engine running available at the start of the slideshow.
Oil pressure cold is 60 psi at 1100 rpm.
When warm, revs rise smoothly with no hiccups.
The four-cylinder note is enhanced by sport air filters and a new stainless steel exhaust.
All four gears engage and disengage without issue, particularly the syncros.
Clutch grip is good.
As is common on these models, the engine/ gearbox/ axle seal integrity remains average.
