Lot 341
The Michael ("Mick") Brough Collection
1990 Honda 644cc NX650-K Dominator
Registration no. G789 RRB
Frame no. RD02-5100003
Engine no. RD02E2100695
Together with two other Honda Dominators, this machine participated in the 2023 SandRaiders Morocco event, the highly regarded 'Dakar Revival' rally raid created for classic and neo-classic motorcycles. Designed to recapture the spirit of the legendary African rally raids of the 1980s, the event challenged competitors over seven stages and approximately 1, 600 kilometres of demanding Moroccan terrain, including dry riverbeds, rocky tracks and deep sand.
Acquired in March 2023 by a close friend of the late Michael Brough, with whom he regularly undertook long-distance adventure and rally events, this NX650-K Dominator was extensively prepared prior to the rally. According to its rider, the Honda benefited from significant maintenance and preparation work, including the fitment of upgraded Honda CRF front forks. Lightweight, agile and highly capable in desert conditions, the machine proved particularly well suited to the demands of the event.
Notably, of the three Dominators entered by the group, this example was the only machine to successfully complete the entire SandRaiders rally. Following its return from Morocco, it was gifted to the Brough family.
The vendor advises that the motorcycle has not been started, run or ridden since crossing the finish line at the conclusion of the event. Having since been shipped back to the UK from Kenya, where its rider resides, the Honda now presents an exciting opportunity for recommissioning, either as a usable adventure machine or as a proven rally participant worthy of preservation.
According to the accompanying HPI report, the Honda was first registered in the UK on 20 February 1990 and has had nine former keepers.
The GOV. UK MOT history records odometer readings of 10, 831 miles in September 2018, 15 miles in May 2021 and 125 miles at its last recorded MOT on 31 March 2022. These variations suggest that alternative instrumentation may have been fitted during its preparation for off-road competition use and, accordingly, the motorcycle's actual mileage cannot be verified. Prospective purchasers should satisfy themselves as to the mileage before bidding. The current odometer reading will be confirmed prior to sale.
Offered with a V5C Registration Certificate.
£1, 000 - 2, 000
All lots are sold ‘as is/ where is’ and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness, mileage, engine capacity and originality prior to bidding. Visit the Bonhams Motorcycles website for all pertinent auction information.
