The Porsche 911 Carrera 2. 7 RS holds a special place in automotive history. The first 911 to bear the “Carrera” name, in homage to Porsche’s victories in the Carrera Panamericana, it also introduces the prestigious “RS” badge for Rennsport. Designed for homologation in Group 4, it represents the perfect synthesis between road car and competition car, a philosophy that forged the enduring legend of the 911. Powered by a flat-six engine enlarged to 2. 7 litres, fed by Bosch mechanical fuel injection and developing 210 horsepower, the Carrera RS 2. 7 offered outstanding performance for its era. Its widened fenders, the rear “ducktail” spoiler and its light weight made it one of the most iconic Porsches ever produced.
The car presented here is an authentic Carrera 2. 7 RS in its highly sought-after Lightweight configuration (M471), the lighter version produced in only 200 examples. Delivered new in Switzerland on 7 February 1973, it still wears its original Grand Prix White with blue wheels and lettering and a black KL interior. Fitted with the rare locking differential as an option “M220”, this car benefits from particularly well-documented history. Its file includes copies of the registration documents tracing its life since 1981, when it was bought by a collector from eastern France. First registered in Jura, then in Maine-et-Loire from 1982 to 1991, it was later registered in Touraine until 2000 before Christian Tahon, co-founder of the Flat 6 magazine, bought it in 2006!
It was he who began a substantial restoration in 2003. The car, which had a racing history, was decided to be returned to its original configuration. The restoration was carried out by Garage Ollier in Carqueiranne. The car was completely dismantled and reassembled “on the pinion” (broche). Several photos appear in the file as well as a four-page article in Flat 6 magazine, the original copy of which accompanies the vehicle today.
In May 2007 it was acquired by its current owner. A gentleman driver of modern racing cars, he has carefully preserved the jewel of his collection. In 2015, its engine (a 1975 magnesium 2. 7L block) was completely rebuilt. Eleven years later, the mechanical fuel injection and the 210 hp ensure first‑class performance and handling for this example, earning it iconic status for the marque. Since its full restoration, the car has retained its bolted roll cage and has been used only for leisure driving, tours and scenic trips, which explains its excellent overall condition. The odometer currently shows a little over 92, 200 kilometres.
Today, this 911 Carrera RS 2. 7 brings together the qualities most sought after by collectors: the emblematic Lightweight “M471” specification, a perfectly documented history, ample provenance, and a recently rebuilt engine. It represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most legendary Porsches of all time, a founding model whose aura still fascinates enthusiasts around the world more than fifty years after its birth.
