Description

NEW ARRIVAL According to the Alfa Romeo Archive, this car: Chassis/ VIN No: AR 2460035 & Engine No: AR00512-06312 is a ‘Matching Numbers’ car and is a LHD car finished in its original colour scheme of Rosso Carmen (AR510) with a Black interior and it was manufactured on 21st July 1971. This is also one of the very first Series 2 Spiders produced in 1971 and is chassis number 35 for the Type 105. 54 In 1970, the first significant change to the exterior styling of the Pininfarina designed ‘Round Tail’ (Duetto) Spider was introduced with the introduction of their new ‘Kamm Tail’ 1750 Spider Veloce, with a squared off back end. Numerous other small changes took place both inside and out, such as a slightly different grille, new door handles, a more raked windscreen, top-hinged pedals and improved interior trim. 1971 saw the Spider Veloce receive a new, larger 1962cc engine and consequently the name was changed from 1750 Spider Veloce to 2000 Spider Veloce. This beautiful 2000 Spider Veloce was first owned by Helga Winkler, a well-known successful person in the photography industry, who purchased the Spider from Alfa Romeo dealer Monzeglio & C in Torino on 15th September 1971. She owned the car for 40 years before it was sold in 2011 to its second owner, a collector in Milan. He owned the car for a further 9 years until 2020, when it was acquired by an Englishman who purchased the car in Italy, drove it back to the UK and registered the car here on 1st December 2020 with the period number plate WWT 974J. After carrying out some recommissioning works, the car was subsequently sold to the current registered owner on 7th March 2022, so it has only had 4 owners in its 55 year life! On inspection, the 2000 Spider presents very well and looks gorgeous in its original paint scheme and is complimented with an excellent black interior trim, all as it should be. The interior certainly is very inviting and retains the correct rubber mats with the Alfa Romeo logo intact. The soft top has been replaced and is in excellent order and does come with a bag/ cover, fitted when the top is stowed in the down position. Mechanically, the car is excellent and wants for nothing. The engine bay is exemplary and still retains the original sticker to the air filter box. The engine starts easily with excellent oil pressure whilst hot or cold. The gearbox operates smoothly and without any synchromesh issues; in fact in our opinion, it is one of the best examples we have seen or driven for many years. These were years ahead of the opposition with their five-speed gearboxes, disc brakes on all four wheels and that lovely raspy Alfa Romeo 4-cylinder twin overhead camshaft engine; does it get any better? The specification certainly means that this car is more than capable to compete in modern traffic. The extensive history file verifies all of its ownership both in Italy and the UK and includes Italian & UK registration documents, letters of authenticity from the Alfa Romeo Archives, Italian Historic Vehicle Register certificate and plaques, period literature, service book, handbook, and original supplier's wallet - Monzeglio & C, Torino. Also of interest is the first Lloyd lnternazionale insurance document in Helga Winkler's name. Being an early production model and given the excellent condition and low ownership, this Alfa Romeo presents an opportunity for the real collector and enthusiast to acquire one of the iconic Alfa Romeo models of the period. We are just in the process of preparing the car for sale and a full set of photographs and a video will follow along with further details. The car is clear on all HPi Registers including the National Mileage Register and it is of course registered as an 'Historic Vehicle', so its MOT exempt, Road Tax free and ULEZ compliant. Upon sale, the car will receive a new MOT and pre-sales service and come with a 6 Month standard Warranty which
