The Lambretta Li series 1 was launched in April 1958. Some 7 months after the TV175 series 1. By then Innocenti had eliminated most of the engine problems that the 175 had. The Li 125 was a dramatic departure from the shaft driven LD range that had preceded it. The new enclosed chain driven engine was centrally positioned under the frame and had more power than the LD. With larger 10-inch wheels and beautifully designed panel work it was a superb scooter to ride and an instant hit. The Lambretta Li125 series 2 was launched in October 1959. Based on the successful series 1 with the obvious difference being the position of the headlight on the handlebars for better lighting when cornering. It had an engine based on the Li125 series 1 but with an increased stroke and several other small modifications that made it the best selling Lambretta of all time.
This very genuine looking example has been restored to what appears to be a very high standard. The paintwork looks very good and is believed to be the correct Innocenti grey for the era. Still on 6v points we can see very many original parts re-used all over the machine. The original carburettor is present with the original speedometer. The body panels are a good tight fit lining up very well and the side panels closed easily. The only non-standard part we could see is a Scootopia replica dual seat with cover coloured to match the scooter. The engine turns freely.
The late Ken Wilson created over many years a small private museum of Lambretta scooters and memorabilia. The scooters having been in a static display with varying periods of inactivity will require some commissioning to a greater or lesser extent before being put on the road.
