Bodywork / Exterior:
The model presented here is an AC Cobra 427 replica assembled by BACKDRAFT Racing in its original “Black / Striping Grey” livery (matching colors).
The fibreglass body shell is free of cracks or non-conforming repair marks.
After a polishing/ polishing job done with an orbital machine at our workshop, we noted stone-chipping on the front face and the rear wings.
The chromed front bumper overriders have been replaced by the famous chromed “Quick jacks” to underline this car’s racing look.
The original chromed roll bar is in perfect condition. A co-driver roll bar has been added to ensure passenger safety as well; it is in as-new condition.
The wind shots (side deflectors) fitted on the sides of the windscreen help improve driving comfort and are also in as-new condition.
This example is equipped with the “Rain Pack” option, including a complete hood + roll bars, a tonneau cover and two side screens. The whole set is in excellent condition.
The 4 “Halibrand”-style 15” wheels are in good condition with no scratches or scuffs, and they will be fitted with 4 new tyres prior to delivery.
Among the interesting equipment and “Bodywork / Exterior” options on this model, we have noted:
Wind shots (side deflectors), the “Le Mans” style “Black” fuel cap, and the “Black” faux-leather tonneau cover, plus the headlamp grilles.
Interior:
The interior has kept its strict original configuration. The overall look is close to new.
The “Grey” leather upholstery with matching piping (matching colour) is in good condition; we noted signs of wear on the outer bolster of the original driver’s seat. The matching leather door cards and the leather dashboard are also in near-new condition.
All the original AUTOMETER dashboard instrumentation is perfectly functional.
The 3-spoke aluminium/ wood COBRA steering wheel, as well as the aluminium “BDR” gear-lever knob, are in perfect condition.
The original “Grey” carpets are protected by matching embroidered-back BACKDRAFT Racing floor mats. The set is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear or fading.
This example also has a battery cut-off, a fire extinguisher, and two CROW harnesses that keep the period look.
Among the interesting interior equipment and options fitted to this model, we have noted:

Chassis:
Once the car is lifted on the ramp, it confirms a tubular chassis and a perfectly sound body shell, with no visible accident marks or apparent structural corrosion.
The fundamentals—rocker panels, floor pans, lower wings, wheel arches and the tubular chassis—are in excellent condition.
During the road test, we did not find any abnormal extraneous noises from the body or running gear (ball joints, bushes/ silent blocks, etc.).
Usage reserve: as a matter of principle, we cannot guarantee perfect alignment beyond the good visual and functional condition validated during the road test and the lift/ check on the ramp.
Road handling is improved by fitting 4 BILSTEIN shock absorbers.
Braking is well balanced, stable and grippy, with no vibration or abnormal noises.
The brake discs show 40% wear at the front and 25% at the rear.
The brake pads show 25% wear at the front and 30% at the rear.
The technical inspection carried out by our workshop ahead of delivery will confirm that the whole system is operating properly.
Engine / Transmission:
The mechanical setup is perfect.
The engine compression readings, as well as the road test carried out by our workshop, confirm an engine block in excellent health.
The FORD Racing V8 starts instantly, with no unusual noises or suspicious smoke, and the idle is stable—just as confirmed by the 360° video with the engine running available at the beginning of the slideshow.
The cold oil pressure reading taken by our workshop is 6 bar at 1, 000 rpm.
This example is equipped with an additional electric fan to reduce the risk of engine overheating.
On the road, the power and speed build-up is steady and without surging, even though it is very brutal given the weight/ power ratio.
Despite a relatively firm shift, the manual TREMEC T5 gearbox slots all 5 gears cleanly, especially at the synchromesh.
The clutch grip is excellent.
Among the engine equipment this car is fitted with, we have noted:
4-into-1 exhaust headers, functional stainless steel side pipes, heat shields/ grilles, the 4-barrel HOLLEY carburettor, the sport air filter, FORD Racing valve covers, MSD Blaster ignition, and the chrome alternator.
As is often the case with older engines, engine/ gearbox sealing remains average.
