National Motorcycle Museum | Solihull, West Midlands Viewing: Tues 21st July from 1pm Auction: Wed 22th July from 10am Location: National Motorcycle Museum, Coventry Road, Bickenhill, Solihull B92 0EJ Registration No: YND 293LFrame No: VSE1T0011018MOT: Exempt Fastidiously detailed to the original down to minutiae Signed by virtually all of the cast of Quadrophenia Genuine Rally 200 with correct later engine VSE1M521130 Large expenditure and years in the making To a certain generation Sting’s ‘Ace Face’ Vespa appearance in Quadrophenia was a moment of sheer exhilaration and a moment never to be forgotten. To be able to own a virtually identical machine, down to specific nut and screw types and even deliberate missing rubbers is a rare opportunity. There were five originals made for the film in identical fashion for continuity, the only difference being that some of them were Rally 200s and the others TS125s with the only notable difference being that the Rally had a key ignition on the headset. The scooter stolen by Jimmy in the end sequence of the film was a Rally 200. There were two that were sent over the cliff – one of each. The evocation that we have here even has one of the horns from one of the cliff-smashed originals. This evocation of this most iconic scooter was created by our vendor with the aim to make people believe it was the actual one in the film. Parts were sourced from far and wide to make it perfect. It has apparently been described by experts Dave Wyburn, who helped with consulting on aspects of the project, The Quadrophenia museum and Quadrophenia expert Graham Webb as superb. The scooter appeared at the Sky Blue Convention 40 years of Quadrophenia in 2019 where it was photographed with and signed at the time by the cast including; Phil Daniels, Toyah, Lesie Ash, Gary Holton, Mark Wingett, Trevor Laird, Gary Shail and Phil Davis. The scooter was sourced from and painted by Cambridge Lambretta in the correct silver colour. Our vendor then did the rest of the work over a long period. The GS graphics for the legshield and the flyscreen were specially sourced in the identical font. The flyscreen is the original type with hexagonal bolts and the detailed slatted strip and now unobtainable. The horncast cover, Turbo wheel discs and spinners, fork cover, double leg shield trim and front bumper are all the correct original Vigano accessories in the correct colours as the originals were used. The seat is an aftermarket AGV in the correct design which we are told had to be recovered twice as it was not exact enough first time. The mirrors and long stems and are all as original Stadium and two of the end caps are deliberately missing as in the film. The Hella halogen lights are genuine and exact as are the seven Onward cycle lights which had to be sourced from a bicycle shop in Greece! The vendor still has the original boxes for these. The yellow Binatone lights are also as original and equally hard to find. The backrest is a genuine Tower Products ironing board as the original. The rear carrier used on the scooters in the film were actually converted Lambretta Vigano racks, and this is what has been done here. The Florida bars are Scootopia versions true to the Ulma originals, now almost impossible to find. The creators of the film scooters were Sterling Scooters and each scooter had a dealers plaque. One of these has been recreated too and attached in the correct place. One of the airhorns is actually taken from one of the scooters that flew off the cliff in the film and there is a signed authentication from Graham Webb to confirm this. There’s also a walking stick (just as in the film) which was used by Sting when he fell off one of the scooters during filming. The attention to detail here is something to behold. It is apparently accurate down to the screws and rubbers! In fully running condition wth Ducati electrics cross over late Rally 200 engine it is ready to wow the Toyahs and Leslie Ashes down in Brighton this coming August. ** Bidding will take place live at the venue, online via our H&H website, by telephone and commission - T&Cs apply** Entry by catalogue and can be purchased for £20 (admits 2...
