Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the BRDC Classic 2026 - Collectors' Cars on Saturday the 25th of July, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. Few motor cars have defined a sector quite so completely as the original Range Rover. Equally at home outside a country house, crossing a muddy field or covering vast motorway miles in supreme comfort, it created the luxury 4x4 market and remained the benchmark throughout its remarkable 26-year production life. By 1993, Land Rover had refined the formula to its highest level with the long-wheelbase LSE, the ultimate evolution of the Classic Range Rover.
Powered by the marque's uprated 4. 2-litre Rover V8, producing around 200bhp, and equipped with the pioneering Electronic Air Suspension system that would later be further developed for the succeeding P38A, the LSE combined effortless performance with a level of refinement previously unseen in a British four-wheel drive. With a list price approaching £30, 000 when new, it represented the flagship of the Range Rover line-up and remains one of the most desirable and collectable variants today.
First registered on 16th November 1993 by Land Rover in Coventry, this UK-supplied example is accompanied by its Land Rover Heritage Certificate (No. 2022/ 2683). Finished in elegant Ardennes Green over a light brown leather interior, it is one of the sought-after Hard Dash models, produced for only a brief period before the introduction of the revised Soft Dash interior. It is understood that approximately 3, 000 LSEs were built across 1993 and 1994 for both UK and export markets, making these flagship models comparatively rare.
Showing just five owners from new, the Range Rover was acquired by our vendor in August 2020, having been off the road since 2002. Over the following five years it became the subject of an extensive restoration and recommissioning programme, finally returning to the road on 16th April 2025.
The restoration was entrusted to Barnwell Motor Engineering, whose combined experience with Jaguar Land Rover products spans more than sixty years. From the outset, the objective was not to over-restore the vehicle, but to preserve its originality wherever possible. We understand that the Range Rover has never required welding and retains what is described as an exceptionally original bodyshell. The underside remains superbly preserved, retaining its original battery trays, seat belt mounting points and even the factory decals on the slam panel, all testament to the integrity of this remarkably unspoilt example.
The exterior panels were carefully stripped back to bare metal before being professionally refinished in their correct Ardennes Green. Once completed, the paintwork was protected with a ceramic coating, whilst the underside and chassis were treated with a zinc-based protective underseal to safeguard the vehicle for years to come. Mechanically, the suspension and steering have been comprehensively refreshed with polyurethane suspension bushes throughout, replacement steering rods and joints, new brake hoses and renewed rear axle brake pipes, whilst the original Electronic Air Suspension system has been retained.
The interior remains wonderfully authentic. The original light brown leather upholstery and carpets have been carefully preserved, whilst the headlining has been professionally retrimmed using premium Rolls-Royce headlining material, a discreet improvement entirely in keeping with the vehicle's original character and ambience.
Accompanying the Range Rover is an excellent collection of original documentation, including its owner's handbook, stamped service book, genuine Range Rover parts manual and workshop manual, providing valuable reference material for its next custodian.
Combining just three owners from new, a remarkably original bodyshell, an exacting five-year restoration, highly desirable Hard Dash specification and an impressive history file, this elegant LSE represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the finest surviving examples of the ultimate Classic Range Rover. As appreciation for exceptional Classic Range Rovers continues to grow, opportunities to acquire examples of this calibre are becoming increasingly scarce.
