Vehicle history:
A rare and highly sought-after 1958 Aston Martin DB2/ 4 MK III has arrived in our showroom. Between 1957 and 1959, only 462 of these elegant 2+2 saloons were produced. Even these figures alone make the 1958 MK III one of the rarer Aston Martin road cars of its era. The MK III, unveiled at the 1957 Geneva Motor Show, was the final and most highly developed version of the DB2/ 4 platform. With its stylish, wing-shaped grille taken from the sports car DB3S and a newly designed dashboard, the MK III immediately stood apart from its predecessors. Although production ended in 1959 with the introduction of the DB4, this elegant design combination was retained and ultimately became a hallmark of the DB range. There were also clear changes under the bonnet. Thanks to W. O. Bentley’s 2. 9-litre straight-six, revised by Tadek Marek—work that included a redesigned intake manifold, high-lift camshafts and a reworked crankshaft—the MK III’s output was increased to 162 horsepower. According to a 1959 test report in “Road & Track”, the MK III was undoubtedly “a car for connoisseurs”.
Chassis number AM300/ 3/ 1632 was delivered on 19 July 1958 via the reputable Aston Martin dealer H W Motors to The Eveton Stud in London, and it was registered under the plate “100 GPD”. According to a copy of the factory build sheet, the car was finished in Pacific Blue, fitted with Off-White Connolly leather, and equipped with overdrive plus disc brakes on the front axle.
The MK III first changed hands sometime between 1959 and mid-1966, when it was bought by a gentleman named C. R. Boast. The build sheet indicates that, up to 1966, Boast had the car brought back to an Aston Martin dealer in August of that year so it could be serviced and reassembled. Very little is known about the car’s subsequent owners. It was registered in the Netherlands in 2004. The current owner acquired this Aston Martin from the specialist “The Houtkamp Collection”.
At the time of sale, the restored DB2/ 4 MK III was finished in Aston Martin green, with a light-brown interior—an interior/ exterior combination it has kept to this day. This well-cared-for MK III would be a wonderful companion for any enthusiast looking for one of the early Aston Martin DB models.
