Registration No. LD1116

Engine No. 16661

Car No. 145

VCC Dating Certificate No. 1821

French Aristocrat Count Albert De Dion and Engineer Georges Bouton formed a partnership in 1883. Their early exploits were in steam and marine boilers but by the mid 1890s they were manufacturing Tricycles and light cars. By 1902, De Dion Bouton estimated that around 30, 000 of their engines were in circulation and that around 140 manufacturers were using their engines under license.

Offered here is a nice example of the 1904 De Dion Bouton 8HP rear entrance tonneau. With 3 speeds and reverse, shaft drive and the ability to carry 4 people, these De Dion cars were one of the most popular available in period.

Little is known about the early history of ‘LD1116’ although it came to the attention of the VCC of Great Britain in around 1987 when it was purchased by A Hutt and C Lucking from a Dr GR Ball. The car was subsequently dated by the VCC on 7th December 1988 and awarded a 1904 date of manufacture. The car was then purchased by Mr T Wilson based in East Sussex who used the car on many VCC Events and London to Brighton runs until around 2020.

Fitted with Electric starting, Tonneau covers and a Stepney wheel, this example was subjected to a full hand repaint and coachline in 2024 and presents in stunning condition today.

Having completed the 2024 and 2025 London to Brighton Runs the car is now available for purchase as the owner has decided it is time to move on.
