The MGC is a sports car produced by the British Motor Corporation from 1967 to 1969, based on the familiar MGB and distinguished by its larger six-cylinder engine and subtle styling changes. Developed as a higher-performance member of the MGB family, the MGC offered considerably more torque and effortless long-distance performance while retaining the character and usability that made the MGB such a successful British sports car.
Milestone Classics are delighted to offer this 1969 MGC, a particularly interesting example with a fascinating international history and a substantial amount of supporting documentation. First registered in 1969 and now showing just three previous owners, this MGC has spent part of its life in the United States before eventually making its way back to its home country.
The car was repatriated to the UK from Arizona in 2011 and has subsequently been completely stripped back, professionally re-sprayed and rebuilt. The current owner is no stranger to the MGC, having previously owned and enjoyed an example of the model in Germany, and this experience has undoubtedly contributed to the care taken with this particular car.
Its American history makes for particularly interesting reading. Within the history file are records relating to previous ownership in the USA, including documentation referring to Mr Roy Johnson Jr. in 1977 and Mr Leopoldo Rosado-Rodriguez in 1978. There is also V5 history relating to the first owner, alongside paperwork documenting the registration and ownership of the car during its time in America. This provides an unusually well-documented picture of the MGC's journey through its earlier years and its eventual return to the UK.
Since returning home, the car has been well cared for and maintained, with various components replaced over the years as required, including items such as the fuel gauge. There is also a substantial collection of MOT history, adding further provenance and allowing the car's later UK life to be followed through the records.
Today, this MGC presents as a properly sorted example of one of MG's most interesting and desirable derivatives. The combination of its six-cylinder engine, classic MGB styling and engaging driving character makes the MGC a particularly appealing British sports car, while the American history, documented ownership and comprehensive paperwork give this example an added layer of provenance.
