Description

Rolls Royce 20/ 25 Sportsman, a substantially built car in wonderfully solid condition, constructed in typical Rippon fashion and with some lovely touches. The doors still close beautifully, as though created yesterday. A very handsome car, with lovely touches and features, such as.....
Glass draft deflectors to the top of the doors.
Beautiful wings, incorporating sculpting and trouser creases.
Various stainless steel fittings, including the door handles.
Lovely P100 headlights.
Sliding sunroof, and more besides.
Fitted and very impressive toolkit, mounted in the boot.
Two fitted suitcases in the luggage compartment
The car really is something special and ‘out of the ordinary’, is all correct, matured cosmetically in an attractive way, and in good order mechanically. Recent full re-wire including sensible upgrades such as…. Modern charging regulator, charge warning light, full beam indicator light, flashing indicators and hazard lights, all fitted discreetly and tastefully. Recent service, running smoothly and driving nicely.

Chassis number GWX10 comes with a huge and impressive history file.
GWX10 was ordered by Bertram Parkinson of B Parkinson & Co (Wool Merchants & Top Makers) & delivered to his home Creskeld Hall, Arthington, Creskeld Hall is still home to the Parkinson family. In July 1940 Bertram Parkinson transferred ownership of GWX10 to his daughter Elsie Mary who had recently married Colonel Malcolm Stoddart-Scott, (Dr, MP & OBE) It would appear that GWX10 stayed with Stoddard-Scott until 1972, almost 40 years with one family !
During the 1970s GWX10 was owned by A. J. Le Blond from Newcastle, an entrepreneur who as a hobby bred & raced several racehorses including Javorrian, Spoofer & Shady. Then there was also J. Oliff-Cooper, a keen angling journalist whose family played the roles of aristocratic owners of an Edwardian County House which was broadcast in 2002 by Channel 4. In the late ‘80s the car was acquired by R. Skerman of C. Skerman & Sons – manufacturers of confectionary machinery.
A beautifully proportioned car, built with Rippon's eye for perfection and quality, a genuinely very special car. Rippon could tracing its roots back as early as 1555—when Walter Rippon crafted a state carriage for Queen Elizabeth I—the modern firm was officially established in 1870 by William Rippon. From 1932 to 1939, Rippon Bros won the Coachmakers Cup (officially known as the Institute of British Carriage and Automotive Manufacturers' Supreme Award). Presented annually at the London Motor Show, this was the highest tier accolade in British automotive craftsmanship, awarded specifically for the finest custom coachwork on display at the exhibition. Their uninterrupted eight-year winning streak with this trophy solidified their reputation as the premier custom car bodybuilders.
This will be a difficult car for me to let go, I have become attached to this one.
