Completed on 21 February 1955 and delivered new to the United States, this Porsche 356 Pre-A 1500 Coupé represents one of the final evolutions of the highly desirable Pre-A series.
According to a copy of its factory Kardex, the car was originally finished in Fish Silver Grey (5406B) over a red interior, a particularly elegant and period-correct combination that has been faithfully reinstated during restoration.
Imported to Italy from California in the early 2000s, the Porsche was later subjected to a comprehensive recommissioning and restoration programme focused on both authenticity and usability. The body was carefully restored and refinished in its correct factory colour, while the interior received new red leather upholstery with matching carpets.
Further attention was devoted to achieving the correct stance and visual presentation, including the fitment of proper 16-inch wheels and tyres.
Mechanically, the car is equipped with a correct-period 1956 Porsche KD-series engine. While the original matching engine is no longer present, the current unit has been rebuilt with larger-displacement pistons to deliver stronger performance and enhanced drivability.
The gearbox has likewise been upgraded to a later, more robust unit better suited to the increased power output. Importantly, the original gearbox accompanies the car, offering the next owner the opportunity to return it to a more factory-correct specification if desired.
Today, the car presents beautifully throughout, combining the delicacy and purity of an early Pre-A with a more usable mechanical configuration. The red leather interior remains in excellent condition, while the restored exterior preserves the understated elegance of its original specification.
