The Triumph TR6 is one of the last British roadsters to retain the classic design featuring a separate frame, a long bonnet and an in-line six-cylinder engine, even though this design already seemed almost old-fashioned when it was launched in 1969. The bodywork was based on the previous TR4/ TR5 series, but its markedly more angular front and rear ends were redesigned by the German firm Karmann. The 1973 model marks the first phase of the CF series, designed primarily for the North American market; instead of the European Lucas fuel injection system, these versions used a pair of Zenith-Stromberg carburettors. It is precisely the simple mechanics, the inline six-cylinder engine and the independent rear suspension that give the TR6 a character markedly different from that of most contemporary sports cars. This 1973 model is fitted with the original 2, 498 cm³ OHV in-line six-cylinder engine, paired with twin carburettors and a four-speed manual gearbox. The engine is in working order and the car is fully roadworthy; both the gearbox and the braking system are functioning correctly. The bodywork and white paintwork are generally well-preserved considering the car’s age, though they do show some localised cosmetic and surface imperfections. Overall, the car provides a solid and usable base which can be gradually refined cosmetically and in detail to the desired standard without the need for major mechanical intervention.
