Lot 217
The Connoisseurs' Collection Part IV
1969 Mitsubishi 500 Saloon
Registration no. Not UK registered
Chassis no. 60-A10-01688

Kept busy during WW2 supplying the Japanese military, Mitsubishi did not return to motor manufacturing until 1959 when it launched the Mitsubishi 500. Boasting a 493cc engine and measuring a little over 3 metres in length, the Mitsubishi 500 was larger than the Kei car regulations allowed. The body/ chassis was of unitary construction and carried its air-cooled twin-cylinder four-stroke engine at the rear, driving via a three-speed manual transmission. From August 1961 the successor 500 Super Deluxe featured a 594cc engine, and this model would form the basis for the successor Colt 600 of 1962.

According to a Google translation from Japanese on file: "The deluxe has three windows and the bumper is also chrome-plated. When it comes to Super Deluxe (A-11), it will be a 600cc 5-seater with an integrated bumper. ( There are other differences, but...) The car was acquired by a former employee of our company around 1972, and then restored at the end of 1987 from the shed in the garden of his home. I heard that it was reworked a lot, but the standard is quite valuable." Also on file is a photograph album from the previous owner. It is possible our vendor acquired the Mitsubishi via Garage Suzuki Co Ltd in 1999. Kept on static display/ storage since acquisition, the car will require recommissioning before further use.
