Believed to have been constructed by renowned Velocette specialist Geoff Dodkin using a post-production frame
Fitted with a VMT-prefix Thruxton engine, Dodkin aluminium yokes and rearsets
Offered from a deceased estate and supplied with its original GP carburettor as well as the latest V5C
An intriguing and well-presented Velocette Special, understood to have been constructed by renowned marque specialist Geoff Dodkin following the cessation of factory production.
Its frame is understood to be of post-production manufacture, while the engine carries a VMT-prefix number, denoting a Thruxton unit. Research with the Velocette Owners Club has identified the engine as having originally been associated with a different frame, further supporting the belief that the machine was subsequently assembled as a Dodkin Special.
Notable features include the distinctive aluminium top and bottom yokes associated with Geoff Dodkin, together with rear-set foot controls. The Velocette currently employs a modern carburettor, fitted to improve ease of starting and usability, although importantly its original GP carburettor accompanies the machine.
The motorcycle was not started during our photography visit; however, the family advise that it had been in regular use prior to the passing of its late owner.
Presenting very well and combining desirable Thruxton mechanical specification with fascinating post-production Velocette history, this unusual machine is now offered as part of a deceased estate dispersal.
