Description

National Motorcycle Museum | Solihull, West Midlands Viewing: Tues 27th October from 1pm Auction: Wed 28th October from 10am Location: National Motorcycle Museum, Coventry Road, Bickenhill, Solihull B92 0EJ Registration No: VVL 234WFrame No: EX2MOT: Exempt Long-term current ownership since 2013 offered here at no reserve Equipped with BMW touring panniers and screen Offered in appealing, usable older condition, acompanied by its current V5C Introduced in 1978, the BMW R65 formed part of a new generation of more compact BMW boxer twins. Powered by the marque’s familiar air-cooled horizontally opposed twin-cylinder engine and driving through a five-speed gearbox and shaft final drive, the R65 offered the engineering quality and long-distance ability for which BMW had become renowned, but in a lighter and more manageable package. First registered on 30th March 1981, VVL 234W has been in the current keeper’s ownership since December 2013 and has a recorded 73233 miles on the odometer. The vendor advises that the BMW has been kept up to and regularly used as everyday transport during his ownership. This is supported by a collection of invoices and previous MOT certificates documenting ongoing maintenance over the years. The invoices record attention to the engine, electrical system, chassis and braking system, with many of the replacement parts sourced from BMW specialist Motobins. Presented in Red/ Black, the BMW has the appealing appearance of a machine that has been used and enjoyed rather than over-restored. It is equipped with BMW hard panniers and a touring screen, while a substantial BMW touring fairing with tinted screen is also included with the machine, offering the next owner the option of returning it to a more traditional long-distance touring configuration. The photographs show age-related patina to the engine, cycle parts and brightwork, consistent with its history as a regularly used motorcycle. DVLA records show that the machine was previously Turquoise/ Black, with the change to its present Red/ Black colour recorded in May 2016. The BMW was started and ran during the recent photography session. A slight vibration induced noise was noted whilst running, which the vendor believes to emanate from an exhaust clamp. Offered with its accompanying invoices and previous MOT certificates, VVL 234W presents as an honest and well-used example of BMW’s enduring air-cooled boxer twin. ** Bidding will take place live at the venue, online via our H&H website, by telephone and commission - T&Cs apply** Entry by catalogue and can be purchased for £20 (admits 2...
