Just 62 miles on the odometer
A show-worthy machine that may require some recommissioning and running-in
Introduced in 1962, the BSA Thunderbolt was one of the first models in the A65 range of 650cc unit-construction twins. With a single large-bore Amal carburettor, it produced 46bhp at 7, 000rpm and was able to cruise comfortably at 70mph, although it could break the ton and doubtless did in those heady days before 1965, when the 70mph speed limit was introduced. The model was a particular success with the American market and 1968 brought a number of improvements, such as a longer kick-start, metal tank badges instead of fragile plastic ones, a new Amal concentric carburettor, and stiffer suspension. It remained in production until 1972.
This well-presented 1971 Thunderbolt was registered with the DVLA in 2015, and appears to have been restored to a high standard shortly beforehand. It was MOTed in 2015 with zero miles on the odometer, and now displays 62 miles, having seemingly been test-ridden a few times and then placed into storage. As it appears to have been out of use for 10 years, it may require some recommissioning, but it remains cosmetically in very good order and would be a welcome sight at any show.
