Description
This Gardner Douglas Mk3 AC Cobra was built in 1997 by a retired engineer who approached the project with exceptional care and attention to detail, creating a beautifully finished example with a comprehensive specification.
Purchased by its current family on 27th February 2002, the Cobra has remained with them for almost 25 years.
During the earlier years of ownership, the car was regularly enjoyed on outings and events, including many miles supporting Sporting Bears, the motoring charity raising funds for children’s causes.
Between 2008 and 2010, the body was removed and professionally resprayed in Ferrari Red. During this process, the exposed chassis and mechanical components were thoroughly inspected, cleaned and photographed before the body was refitted.
Maintenance and improvements over the years have included an uprated clutch and concentric slave cylinder assembly, six new coilovers, replacement tyres, servicing and a full ethanol-safe carburettor rebuild.
Although used less frequently in recent years, the Cobra has continued to receive attention and occasional outings.
With approximately 13, 700 miles recorded, it is accompanied by comprehensive build documentation, service records and MOT history.

It was always about the sound.
Long before the first drive, before the memories and the miles, there was that unmistakable Cobra soundtrack. The sort of sound you never really forget.
When this Cobra joined the family back in 2002, nobody could have known quite how many memories it would become part of.
There were weekends out together, miles travelled for charity and those wonderful moments when the excuse for a drive was simply that the sun was shining.
And then there were the slightly less official adventures. A son borrowing his dad’s flat cap and driving gloves, taking the Cobra out and proudly showing it off to his mates. We suspect Dad didn’t know quite everything about those particular outings!
In 2016, the Cobra became part of another family milestone. A wedding, a collection of much-loved cars and trucks, and Mum and Dad arriving in the Cobra, Dad proudly wearing his kilt. A memory that has stayed with the family ever since.
Even now, after all these years, the little moments matter most.
Only recently, father and son were out together again, winding through villages, stopping at a pub or two and enjoying the simple pleasure of being in the Cobra together.
The smell of Castor R, the sound of the engine and a familiar road stretching ahead.
But families grow, life changes and sometimes the cars we love don’t get the time on the road they deserve.
This Cobra has been part of one family’s life for almost 25 years. It has shared their celebrations, their adventures and the ordinary days that somehow become the most precious memories.
Now it’s looking for someone who will give it more of those days.
The next chapter is waiting to be written.
Let’s keep the Romance going.
