Beskrivning
The 575 Superamerica is the open version of the 575M, introduced in 2005 as a limited run of 559 cars. The V12 went from 515 to 540 ps, enough for 320 km/ h, which allowed Ferrari to present it at the time as the fastest convertible in the world.
The roof is what it is all about. Leonardo Fioravanti patented a design that does not fold away but rotates 180 degrees around a single axis to lie flat on the boot lid. Because the roof and the boot lid hinge on that same axis, the luggage compartment stays accessible with the roof down. The glass itself was developed together with Saint Gobain and is electrochromic: five tint levels, from almost clear to nearly black, operated by a button on the centre console. The whole assembly costs barely sixty kilos over the closed Maranello.
This example also has the GTC Handling Package, developed from Ferrari’s experience with the 575 GTC racing programme. The package includes:
Stiffer springs, 35 percent at the front and 15 percent at the rear
A 73 percent stiffer rear anti roll bar
Revised dampers with their own ECU calibration
A sharper steering setup
Brembo carbon ceramic brakes
Modular 19 inch wheels
Faster F1 gearbox software
Sports exhaust
Fun fact: the figure of 559 is no accident. Ferrari stuck to Enzo’s rule that there should always be one car fewer available than the market asks for.
