The car is on the road with MOT until June 2009, Taxed until December.
It has been well cared for over the years, and the interior is particularly exceptional for the age and mileage of 147, 000 (approx.). The photos give a good idea of the interior condition: headlining, carpets doorcards and seats all very good.
The bodywork is very sound and well presented. It had new rear arches fitted a few years ago, and I think new wings too. Both sides were painted when that work was done. It looks very smart, with a few minor signs of age such as stone chips on the front valance, and the odd tiny dent which you hardly notice. It is solid underneath, as clean as many 7 year old cars.
I have done a thorough service including plug leads, plugs, oil and filter, air cleaner, antifreeze etc., replacing anything that I found that was suspect. As a result, the engine runs super-smooth at all times, starts instantly, and has good oil pressure. The central locking works properly, and the car is equipped with power steering, Mercedes toolkit, first aid box, warning triangle, handbooks, fitted rubber mats and carpet overmats. It has roof rails, towbar and mudflaps. I have to smile when the lazy classic car press refer to the 200 as the base model!
While servicing the car I was surprised at how clean the engine bay is, and I spent some time on further cleaning and detailing - you are unlikely to get dirty when doing any checks and maintenance. There is some service history, and many MOTs and bills with the car.
It has had an interesting history as it has had worn a personalised number plate and a flag pennant in the middle of the bonnet. These models are very easy to service and maintain. It is not necessary to go under the car or even jack it up to change the oil and filter. The bonnet opens to 90 degrees giving full access without banging your head on the grille!
The economy of the 200 manual is the best of the petrol W123s, and should average 30+ MPG. The 5 speed box is a big help .
In summary this car is an excellent example, with potential to be a show car or continued use as a daily driver.
