This Land Rover Series 1 80" has just been recovered from a shearing shed near Tumut in country New South Wales. The owner said he drove it into the shed 30 years ago with the intention of changing out the faulty starter but never got around to it. Interestingly, I found the replacement starter motor was still sitting in the passenger foot well.
I was also told that the car was originally brought to Australia for the Queens first visit in 1954 when it was used by the Detective detailed to protect her. Apparently, the car was painted purple at that time and traces of that original finish are still visible.
The vehicle is in as found condition, with a rock solid chassis and bulkhead, complete drive train (less starter - which is in the foot well) and a pretty good body. I purchased the car after being told about it by a mate who knew I was restoring my own 1954 Series 1. I'd intended using it for parts, but on seeing the car (and buying it) I realised it was far too good for that and if it is one of the Land Rovers used on the Queens visit then it should be restored.
