1953 FORD ZEPHYR SIX MKI 3 position Convertible with Power Hood
Finished in ivory with luxurious red leather trim piped in ivory matched by red deep pile Wilton carpets also piped in ivory. All of this is complemented by a co-ordinating red double-duck soft top.
This glorious head turning car is both tax and MoT exempt and has benefitted from a full ground up restoration which started in August 2006 and was completed in April 2010. There are in excess of 330 images reflecting the high standard of the restoration and resulting in a year by year detailed journey of the car to its present pristine condition. A valuation carried out by Ford Zephyr/ Zodiac Motor Services at the end of the restoration in 2010 confirms all of the above and the car was valued then at £25, 000. Since then values have escalated for cars of this quality and rarity.
This car was built by the Carbodies Company of Coventry in late 1953 and was shipped to New Zealand as an export model and stayed on the South Island of NZ until it was sold as a restoration project in June 2006. The car was in regular use in NZ until the mid 70’s when it was taken off the road. An in depth report was produced on the condition of the car in 2006 prior to shipment to the UK.
This very rare car is fitted with bonnet emblem, wider wheels with chrome embellishers and white wall tyres, period tuning equipment which is highly sought after and difficult to obtain including the SPECO Rocker cover aquaplane special cylinder head and manifolds with the triple SU carburettors fitted with ram filters. It is also fitted with the rare and desirable Borg-Warner overdrive plus the export oil bath air cleaner system. In addition it has a badge bar with period badges AA and Zephyr Zodiac Club, period wing mirrors, period radio, extra period dials, spare wheel cover with Zephyr emblem, fully carpeted boot, locking petrol cap and glass rear window to the hood.
Zephyr Six MkI convertible’s are few and far between with only a handful known to exist and even more so with the specialist tuning equipment , power hood and the overdrive system.
The history folder includes, current V5, previous MoT certificates, original Nov 1954 Ford Zephyr Six road test carried out by Motor Magazine, invoices, radio manual, aforementioned images, write up and articles and the original repair manual. The previous owner was an avid Ford Zephyr/ Zodiac member and the car has regularly been seen at the Ace Cafe and other car shows. This is a great opportunity to own a first class piece of British motoring history and a very rare car indeed @ £33995
