Here we have for sale a smart Land Rover® Lightweight with a good specification, released in 1983 from the military and retaining many of its military period features. This Lightweight is a 12v version, so easier to maintain with the added benefit of keeping the middle seat. On the outside, the vehicle has the correct profile 'chevron' 750 tyres - brilliant off road and self cleaning, with military bumperettes fitted in the correct silver front and rear. A recent green canvas has been fitted, and the military lifting eyes are still in place on the front bumper. The vents also have the military fly-screens, which is nice to see, and a bonnet mounted spare is also fitted to complement the period door-mounted mirrors. A towbar and electrics are fitted should you wish to use the vehicle for towing. The bodywork is very, very straight for a vehicle of this age and has the correct Matt Paint finish as it would've had in the military. The original lights survive and are of the correct military specification.
On the inside, the vehicle has the military-style under seat fuel tank, along with a recent looking set of standard seats which can removed to allow access to this. The heater works superbly - when the vehicle went out for photos we forgot it was on, it is that quiet... and we thought it was a boiling hot day! The passenger grab-handle is present, along with the military convoy light switch and static 3 point seat belts are fitted to remove the need for a seatbelt bar. All of this gives the vehicle an unmolested feel - although the rear is currently unfitted, it could house bench seats easily. A split tailgate is fitted in the rear, which allows easy access for loading.
Out on the road, this Lightweight has an extraordinarily smooth 2286cc Petrol, which is whisper quiet when ticking over. With the addition of the larger tyres and Range Rover Differentials, cruising at speed is a more relaxing experience. A recent exhaust has been fitted and she sounds as she should, and pulls well. Being lighter than Series 3 counterparts, acceleration is sprightly!
In summary then, if you are looking for a smart, well spec'd, clean Land Rover® Lightweight then this is for you. Lightweights are becoming increasingly difficult to find in good condition, and this is a fine example of the breed without commanding the higher prices of a rebuilt vehicle. With superb off-road ability, and the option to run stripped with no doors, roof or windscreen, this is the perfect all year round vehicle for snow, shows and summer evenings in the sun. With the added opportunity of tax exemption, this should prove cheap to run and become a solid future investment.
