Residing with several local collectors since its importation, this Berlina 2C is a well-preserved driver with some exciting mechanical upgrades by Santo Spadaro at Dominick’s European Car Repair in White Plains, NY. The engine has been bored out and fitted with the larger 1. 3 pistons, along with hotter cams, 10:1 compression, 1. 3 valves, a rally-style header, and 35mm carbs. The result is a Fulvia Berlina that looks totally original, with an extremely satisfying increase in power to around 100 hp. Perfect for touring or classic car rallies, this spec preserves the legendary smoothness and finesse of the car while providing driving thrills previously unknown in the Lancia sedan world.
Solid and sound throughout, the body shows only minimal corrosion down by the rear valence. Floors appear solid from underneath, as do the rockers, subframe, and rear suspension mounts. An older respray, the paint is still very presentable, though it does show some surface cracking in places, while the engine bay and trunk appear to have their original paint intact. Chrome, glass, and trim are similarly good, complemented by some excellent Lancia stickers. Panel gaps and doors all fit well, while the front and rear ends are straight and true with no sign of prior accident damage.
Inside, the wonderful Fulvia Berlina dash takes center stage, with its unique “barrel” speedometer and square tach both functioning perfectly. The thin, lacquer wheel and elegant “four on the tree” shifter feel perfect, while the original, comfortable seats present extremely well with good support and no rips or tears. Correct rubber mats are present throughout, as are the transparent door pulls and black vinyl door cards. The headliner is in good shape too, though slightly discolored around the door seals. Out back, the spacious trunk contains a spare, its cover, and the coveted, blue Battaini jack.
Beyond the engine upgrades, the car sports a recent clutch mated to a flawless four-speed box. Shifts are impressively smooth and effortless via the delicate column shifter, with perfect synchros and no untoward noises, even when cold. New koni shocks and strong, linear brakes further enhance the drive, the result being a confident, capable, and fast Fulvia. Completely turn-key, with solid electrics and recent consumables, this Berlina is ready for many seasons of Italian motoring to come.
