Previously owned by Anton Els of Wagga Wagga, NSW, who purchased the bike in the late 1970’s. Anton enjoyed riding the bike as a teenager and into his early 20’s when, like so often occurs, a wife, a young family and home took priority. The bike was stored and not ridden for many years from the early 80’s until purchased from the present owner in October 2006.
Restoration
This motorcycle has undergone very minor refurbishment, predominated by repainting with the body-work colour matched to the original paint from under the seat base.
Frame hand-sanded & repainted standard black.
Engine strip-down, new big-end bearing & con-rod
Cylinder rebore/ hone and all gearbox & thrust bearings replaced
Cylinder head overhaul by Ian Gowanloch, including hardened valve inserts.
Conti exhaust in matt black finish.
Aftermarket chrome rear shocks
Seat recovered.
Rewound stator and rewired electrics (6 volt).
General Information.
This bike has the correct numbers, correct gear linkage and correct front mudguard to suit disc-brake front wheel. It is a genuine 250 Desmo, predominately ridden in Ducati Owner's Club runs by the owner’s wife. This very rare Desmo has provided many years of trouble free enjoyment. A great sounding and fabulous looking bike that has proven very reliable and fun to ride. One of only thirty originally imported to Australia in 1973.
