Body built by LM (Bill) Williams in the 50’s at their works based in Surrey.
Bill Williams wrote the famous book How to build an Austin Seven Specials which for many years was the “Go to” book for all Austin Seven Special builders.
These cars had various modifications to improve performance and most of these are incorporated on this car. To give them some extra power it has a high compression finned alloy cylinder head which also provided over 100% increase in water capacity to give cooler running. It has the Cambridge Engineering independent front suspension, remote gear change and Bowdenex brake conversions. The car comes with some useful books including “Rebuild your Austin Seven the Cambridge Way” and other bits are included a newspaper article detailing the history of this car and its previous owners 750 special Builders Handbook and various other bits.
Much recent work, has been done on this car, including rear springs re tempered, brakes overhauled, new Alan Raeburn inlet and “Bunch of Bananas” exhaust manifolds, new SU carburettor, electric petrol pump, increased capacity oil pump fitted, big ends re metalled, rewired with hidden indicators, new dashboard, fold down windscreen re fitted, new smaller steering wheel, gearbox rebuilt with close ratio gears and full 12 volt electrics. Unusually this car has a full hood and side screens as well as tonneau cover.
Tax is free. Comprehensive insurance about £65, so it's really cheap to run.
It looks great, goes well and has lots of character, but it is over 80 years old so no guarantees. This is a great little fun car, it is easy to run and maintain with readily available parts. There are many Seven Owners' Clubs who are friendly and very helpful to new owners.
