Here we have for sale a smart, ex- military 90, having being released from service in 1997. As can be seen, this vehicle has many military aspects still present, from lovely "lightweight type" sidelights, correct recessed headlights, front bumper with pintle, rear bumperettes, and rear mounted spare. There are also a few other, more modern touches too that give it a little individuality - side steps for ease of access and improved side impact protection, tow bar and electrics, and rear mudflaps. The bodywork has survived in good, straight condition, and the military paint finish is better than many painted by short sighted squaddies! This is a fairly high spec 90 too - superb aluminium door tops (look smart forever and no rust) and rear windows, should dogs or people want a view.
The inside also has some military type dash and switch gear, but other than that its all standard 90 fayre. There are three smart front seats fitted for 2 plus 1, but should it be required, a pair of rear benches could easily and cheaply be added to offer seating for up to seven - making it more like a station wagon type set up.
Out on the road, the diesel engine fires up keenly and without drama, and the coil sprung riding experience and disc brakes give a surprisingly modern 90 feel. The fact that this vehicle remained in the forces until later in its life, point to a vehicle which has bee pampered until 1997 - due to their fastidious servicing schedule.
If you are looking for an old school 90 for dependability and a bit of ex military cool, then this truck fits the bill. These older vehicles also benefit from "round the corner" servicing ability (any local garage), and can even be maintained by the regular enthusiast very simply -they also qualify for classic insurance with military discount with it being 25 plus years old..... so with easy maintenance and low running costs, it should prove a great truck to use AND invest in.
