Description
1959 MGA Roadster MK1 1600 – home market car - matching numbers - fully restored and correct in every detail.
Welcome to the sale of my truly stunning 1959 MGA Roadster MK1 1600 in Chariot red with black leather and red piping. I commissioned the rebuild from scratch.
A time-lapse film of the complete restoration of this car speaks for itself:
- details above details below
A genuine and rare, UK ‘home market’ example (only 5% of production). Fully and professionally restored with fanatical attention to authentic detail with many hard-to-find original and new ‘old stock’ parts.
The reference website for MGA’s, ‘MGA Guru’ features this exact car, describing it as “being restored to original colours in every detail”.
Specification:
Correct and original ‘1600’ engine and 4 speed gearbox (‘full matching numbers’) – both fully rebuilt, with the engine having been uprated to ‘fast road’ specification by renowned MG tuner, Peter Burgess. A desirable 3. 9 differential lengthens the gearing. It easily exceeds the original performance figures and sounds superb.
Runs on unmarked 60 spoke painted wires with the correct ‘period’ Michelin tyres (tubeless), secured with the correct spinners on splined hubs. Chrome is in A1 condition.
The car comes with full weather equipment in the correct material and colour (grey), and also comes with a tonneau cover in black mohair which fits beautifully.
It has the optional heater fitted, and when I specified the rebuild, I deliberately chose not to have a radio, mirrors or luggage rack – a personal choice that accentuates the clean, elegant lines of the car.
It comes with a full toolkit to original specification, and unused spare wheel.
It is fitted with an electronic distributor (the only ‘non-period’ concession).
The car handles confidently with zero play in the steering, the brakes pull the car up straight and work as they should (original Lockheed calipers front, drums rear). There are no rattles or squeaks, and the suspension is at the correct height and rides with compliance on country roads.
All panel gaps are tight and consistent and the paintwork is to an extremely high standard with a ‘glass like’ finish.
Since completion, the car was selected for entry to the exclusive ‘Warren Classic Concours d’Elegance’ where it was 2nd in class on its first outing. It has also won several awards (multiple winner of ‘best in class’ and ‘best in show’) and has been magazine featured in ‘Cumbria Life’.
The car also includes a great registration ‘DJ 955’.
I have driven about 2, 000 dry miles since restoration, which has enabled any niggles to be ‘debugged’.
Now freshly serviced and fully checked. It is 100% ‘on the button’ in every respect – it really is as good as it gets and is genuinely a ‘collector grade’ example.
Serious enquiries only please.
