You are looking at a complete volkswagen 1Y 1. 9 diesel engine.
These engines are very popular as an easy t25 / t3 van conversion. The original diesel t25 is very underpowered and unreliable, and petrol t25s are very thirsty.
By fitting a 1y engine, you get an appreciable increase in power, a lot better fuel economy, and most importantly bulletproof reliability.
There are a lot of options for engine conversions, but the 1y is by far the easiest/ cheapest/ quickest. In a diesel van it practically fits straight in with very few alterations. In a petrol van you need to buy some diesel van parts but its still by far the easiest conversion.
They are very reliable having no turbo and either very little or no electronics depending on your choice. They are legendary for their reliability, longevity and low fuel usage.
They are also the last of the indirect-injection engines, meaning that unlike pretty much any other conversion option, they are ideal for bio-diesel / cooking oil / green alternative fuels if you are interested in that.
This particular engine has done about 98k from new which really is not that much for one of these, they are known to go on for hundreds and hundreds of thousands of miles with just good servicing. It starts on the button, doesnt smoke, doesnt leak, runs well and has always been well serviced. The cam belt has been changed in the last few years too. Unfortunately the car it was in rusted out around it and has finally succumbed to the dreaded rust.
You will get the whole complete engine with ALL bolt-ons, ready to fit. Starter, alternator, manifolds, all included.
This engine can be set up in two ways:
1) electronic fuel pump, as it has now. This has the benifits of having an electronic anti-theft immobilizer, electronic control, diagnostics etc. while there is some wiring involved, its MUCH less than a TDi or other engine, and the throttle is still mechanical, NOT fly-by-wire. The wiring connectors, engine management unit, immobilizer unit with two programmed keys will come supplied. This setup is unfortunately NOT suitable for alternative fuels.
2) an old style mechanical Bosch fuel system can also be supplied along with this engine if required. It does not have an immobilizer or electronics, It literally just needs ONE wire to work, and its ideal for alternative fuels (bio diesel, cooking oil, etc).
Will be strapped to a pallet ready for collection in person or by your chosen courier. Can be seen running.
