Chassis number the details below - this example recently imported from Pasadena, California is a RHD version of 911T Targa and has the 2195cc engine and as per the chassis number it is a genuine 1970 model. The Porsche 911 made its public debut at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. Initially designated as the Porsche 901 referring to its internal project number. However, Peugeot protested on the grounds that in France it had the exclusive right to car names formed by three numbers with a zero in the middle. So, instead of selling the new model with another name in France, Porsche promptly renamed the car the 911 and it became available to the public from 1964. The Targa model was initially launched during 1967, "Targa" meaning "Shield" in Italian, and for the 1970 model year the engine displacement of all 911's was increased to 2195 cc increasing the power output for the 911T to 123 BHP.
