Description
Following the "mixed" commercial success of the 308 GT4, Enzo Ferrari regretted having entrusted Bertone with the design of his 4-seater coupé with a central rear engine. He therefore decided to leave it to Pininfarina to come up with a replacement model: the MONDIAL 8, launched in 1980. The name "Mondial" refers to the name of a four-cylinder sports-racing car from the 1950s, already designed by Pininfarina, while the number 8 indicates the number of cylinders under the bonnet. Pininfarina created a completely new car, even if the lines at first sight were reminiscent of those of the 308 gt4, taut and square. To lighten the flanks, which were weighed down by the advanced passenger compartment, the Italian designer installed two large side grilles and a black profile, which emphasised the rear pillars and the part of the roof above the rear window. On this first version, equipped with Bosh k-jectronic injection, power was limited to 215 bhp (219 km/ h vmax). This performance, well below that of the 308 GT4, penalised the car's launch. The problem of a lack of power was solved in August 1982 with the launch of the Quattrovalvole, which developed 240 bhp with its 32-valve cylinder head. But the real change in sales did not come until 1983 with the launch of the Mondial QV cabriolet. The absence of a roof greatly enhanced the car's overall lines, making it much slimmer and sleeker. It was a real commercial success, with the United States absorbing 80% of production. 1985 saw the launch of the Mondial 3. 2, whose main features were more aerodynamic front fascias, better integration and the same body colour as the 328. Mechanically, power was increased to 270 bhp, providing performance worthy of the brand in the eyes of the most demanding Ferrari enthusiasts. The Mondial T, the ultimate evolution of this model, was presented at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. With its cubic capacity increased to 3405 cm3 , power reached 300 bhp. With the new weight distribution, longitudinal engine and transverse gearbox (hence the name Mondial T) and this increase in power, the Mondial reached 255 km/ h with an ease and driving pleasure truly superior to previous models. It is therefore the best of the Mondial that we are offering you with this "ROSO CORSA" T cabriolet, BLACK leather, manufactured in May 1991 and delivered new in France in October 1991. However, it was not registered until 14 September 1994, remaining in ww during this period, as was common at the time. Its first owner, from Lille, kept it for 11 years, and we have full traceability of the history and identity of the owners right up to the present day. Our model is in exceptional cosmetic and mechanical condition. In June 2025, we carried out a major service including engine removal, complete timing kit, oil change, filters, spark plugs, valve clearance check, flow meter replacement, braking system and suspension check, new fuel gauge, air conditioning refill, etc. The list would be too long, but we are proud to be able to offer you a perfectly reliable model that will give you all the iconic Ferrari sensations, with your family and your hair blowing in the wind. This is one of the last classic Ferraris that is still affordable, but its price is rising and it is not going to stop. A pleasure purchase and a good investment, perhaps the ideal compromise?
