Description
Produced from 2001 to 2005 in numbers of just over 7, 000, the Opel Speedster aims to be notably radical and sporty… Developed and produced in Lotus factories with an aluminium chassis and offered in a Targa version, it is meant to be the true cousin of the Lotus Elise. This Opel was, logically, very different from the range, to attract a younger clientele and to show a dynamic side of the brand… It will be replaced in 2007 by the Opel GT in its line, but the latter already aims to be more bourgeois where the Speedster is rather sharp, and can be used on track at a perfectly reasonable running cost.
NYC’s/ OXOTO puts up for sale a magnificent example, just under 34, 000 kms, in blue with black leather interior. Delivered new in 2001 to the Opel BASTIEN dealership in Renaix, Belgium, it ran on showroom plates until July 2003. It was mainly displayed in a showroom before being sold to an enthusiast from Renaix in February 2008 with 1, 668 km on the odometer. Its current and second owner, a Frenchman working for the marque at the time, bought it in May 2011 when it had 10, 500 km. It is therefore currently on French registration. This Opel Speedster is numbered (1316) and is therefore one of the earlier ones produced. In this colour combination and with this mileage, it already clearly has a place in fine (unusual) car collections.
The bodywork really looks excellent; there is a fine scratch on the front bumper and on the front left wing, but otherwise there is nothing to fault: first paint, never involved in an accident, it is truly a very, very beautiful example! The interior also presents very well, whether the seats, door cards (only the aluminium face slightly sticky – a known defect), the dashboard, but especially the door sills which are in excellent condition. It’s even rare to see them free of scratches (foot traffic when getting in). The hood is equally in excellent condition.
Regarding the mechanics, although we do not have service invoices, we can confirm that it runs superbly. The reason is simple: its owner, a circuit‑session enthusiast and experienced driver, has always carried out the maintenance himself, leaving nothing to chance and treating his car with respect: warm‑up time when driving, annual servicing and check‑ups, etc… In fact, we have reports from various French (and one Belgian) technical inspections, most of which are free of remarks. The latest dates from July 2024 (31, 755 kms) and mentions only a minor note about the front brake pads.
The car comes with all the period options: its VDO radio, the aluminium fixed roof and the alarm. Only the exhaust and a direct air intake have been replaced, but its owner has naturally kept the original parts which will be supplied with the car.
A lifting rack is available on our premises to show you the underside of the vehicle.
