The Fiesta 1300 Super Sport was born at the very end of the 70s, when Ford sought to give its city car a sportier image to meet the trend of small sporty cars sparked by Volkswagen and its Golf GTI.
The SVE (Special Vehicle Engineering) department takes the Fiesta 1300 S and makes it a very limited special edition: the same Kent 1. 3 engine slightly sharpened, but above all a full body kit (wide arches, spoiler, alloy wheels, side stripes) paired with a stiffened chassis. All this for a featherweight 775 kg. Introduced in 1980 and produced in around 3, 000 units, it served as a real test bed: Ford was testing the commercial potential of a sporty Fiesta before launching, the following year, the more famous sport derivative of the range, the Fiesta XR2.
The XR2, despite having more power than the Super Sport, is not the one most sought after by collectors. The atypical Fiesta 1300 Super Sport, built for only one year, now commands all the attention due to its rarity and the very small number of models still on the road.
The Super Sport we present today takes you straight back to the early 80s, more precisely October 1980, when this car left the factory. The car is in more than remarkable condition. It shows 128, 000 km on the odometer and the robust 1. 3L Kent purrs as it did on day one. It has indeed undergone an appraisal in 2022, attesting to the concours-condition of the vehicle and the care shown by its three owners. The car was valued at €18, 000.
