The Type E, in its early open-top version, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful automotive designs in the world. A timeless style that still makes many dream today.
This very fine example is among the early models (1961-1963), the most desirable. The Bordeaux/ white combination is particularly elegant. This car was delivered new on 5 April 1963 to Jaguar Cars in New York. It stayed there until its arrival in France in 2008. Since then it has had only two owners, including the current one. It spent a few years in Monaco with a collector passionate about fine machinery.
The bodywork is in good condition and presents well. The paintwork has a patinated look. Restored about fifteen years ago, the car has retained all its period charm. A full technical appraisal confirmed there is no corrosion on the chassis or on the sills. The front and rear suspension/ running gear have been redone in the past. The gaps around the openings are not perfect but well executed. The chrome trim is in excellent condition and the front bumpers are new. The burgundy soft top is also new.
Under the hood it sports its original 3. 8-litre engine fed by three SU carburettors. That famous inline six producing just over 265 bhp. A must for the era! It is equipped with its original Moss 4-speed gearbox.
The car is cared for by its owner as it should be. Among recent works are:
- replacement of the water pump and expansion tank
- fitting of four-piston aluminium brake calipers
- complete removal/ re-fit of the gearbox for overhaul
- replacement of the complete clutch kit
The car is looked after by a specialist in these models.
Finally the interior, in burgundy, is in good condition. As with all early models, it features an aluminium dashboard and centre console. The whole is well preserved with some normal signs of wear due to age. The leather seats and door panels were redone a few years ago. The instrumentation is functional. It is fitted with a smaller steering wheel for comfort, and an electronic ignition has been installed to ease daily use.
The detailed appraisal highlights a car in good mechanical condition with a nice body and a well-crafted interior. A car that, moreover, is matching numbers and comes with its Jaguar Heritage Certificate.
